Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,

Graveyard scene. Need to think of something dark and gloomy. People like combine forbidden love, murder and mystery to the fire. Eat some breakfast and play some smoothing rock music. Sometimes I like to get my ideas from my nightmares or horror movie

Depends on what your style or genre in the "gothic arts" is. Would you write like Anne Rice? Edgar Allan Poe? H.P Lovecraft? Or something all together different?
This novel doesn't have to be booming with action on each page, but it would be a good idea to find a way to draw the reader in. Perhaps try to come up with an idea that isn't overused?
Original ideas can sometimes be impossible because someone somewhere, may have thought something along the lines of this.
Another important thing, who's your intended audience?
